How Do I Pick The Right Product To Sell?

Finding the right product to sell is arguably the most important step in running your e-commerce business. The products you choose to sell will define the outcome of virtually everything in your business. Even if you have every other aspect of your business locked down (including optimizing your listing, finding a good supplier or having a good price) as long as you pick a bad product, you will get bad results and lose money. Indeed, product selection is a crucial decision to make and cannot be overlooked.

So now that we know how important product selection is, the only thing left now is actually knowing how to pick the right product to sell. In order to make things easier for you, I have condensed the most important things to look out for in selecting your products into a small list that is easy to understand and use when you are making this very important decision.

  • Ensure your products are lightweight; you want to avoid bulky items, this would save you dollars on unnecessary extra handling fees.
  • Pick marketable/sellable products within your chosen niche; do this by studying what the bestselling products in your niche and tailoring your product choice towards this direction. You want to select a product that is in DEMAND, not something that won’t sell
  • Look out for durable items; avoid products that can break easily
  • Choose items that allow the flexibility of optimization, modification, and improvement. This would give you a wide range of options with clients and chance to make more money
  • Look out for products that encourage reoccurring purchases; essentially, these are products that will keep customers coming back more and keep your pockets FAT 🙂

I hope as you follow these tips you make better choices in selecting the best products that will get you to that goal of $45,000 per month!

Dont ask what people say, nobody will tell you, people are afraid that you can copy cat them. Just do your research.

Try to build your list! For example run Facebook ad campaigns for newsletter sign ups , offer free desktop and mobile wallpaper, or how-to report. People have to put in their email, then we have a trigger set up on MailChimp to email all new subscribers the link for the wallpaper or report, plus we insert suggested products in the email. We get 300-400 sign ups a day at like 0.1 an email. Works like charm!

Use Privvy for the popup, and the email coupon code autogenerated from Mailchimp. It's a nice combo.

2 questions. Love the community very helpful read..

1.Whats BSR??
2. Whats MOQ?

Uncle Sam says at 21:48 et
BSR... BSR (best sellers rank) is how well you are ranked on amazon.. the smaller the number the better!
Ideally you must be under 10,000 BSR to get 5-10 sales per day!

Claudia says at 22:21 et
China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, is held biannually in Guangzhou every spring and
autumn, with a history of 55 years since 1957. The Fair is a comprehensive one with the longest history, the
highest level, the largest scale, the most complete exhibit variety, the broadest distribution of overseas buyers and
the greatest business turnover in China http://www.cantonfair.org.cn/en/index.aspx

hi Xuan, it depends on many factors. what is your store? what product you sell? what ads you run? You might want to submit your project to Critics here http://sellslikehotcakes.co/critics.php and everyone will help brainstorming it.

Hi there,
On my own I have set up my Shopify website with my domain, I have Oberlo and have imported lots of products and listed them, however, i am really not sure that they are worded right in the SEO way and I have been trying social marketing but still have no sales, I've been doing this for several weeks now. so I have just discovered Sells Like Hotcakes and thought that you may be able to help me with the marketing, the conversions and eventually with Amazon FBA is this something that you can do or because I have done most of the set up myself do you think I should continue on my own? I really am struggling to get past this rut where I have done everything I should do and no sales. Please help?

thanks in desperation!
Sallyann

how much should i charge for international shipping for "free + shipping offers"? If a client buys a "free+shipping offer" directly from my site more than once - how much should i charge for every "free+shipping item" added?

 Lane says at 03:41 et
It's hard to say without knowing your product, location or shipping costs how much you should charge. Best tip here is see what competitor is charging so you will get a rough idea. Maybe $19.95 for a Tshirt or $9.95 for a Mug

I don't see a need to limit the amount of "free+shipping item" as long as you are making profits and have good margins

I thought "boost post" was a big no- no, and should instead use ads manager? Can someone drop some knowledge on me?

 Eddy says at 06:38 et
Boost post is the same as using ads manager if you already created audience and just want to quickly boost the post for $10-15 when building community.
